Late Summer Salmon River

This small two-rod river runs through the beautiful valley of Þjórsárdalur. The crystal clear river is a tributary of Þjórsá and is one of the main spawning ground for the Atlantic salmon of the upper Þjórsá. Despite its small size, the Sandá produces several salmon over 20 pounds every year. The best fishing tends to be late summer, usually around September. Two rods are allowed in Sandá, fly only and catch and release.

Sandá also has a sizable run of Sea-run Brown Trout as well as the occasional Arctic Char
